Day 8 - Pouring Water

Foley is really an art form. When it comes to putting so many sounds together, it can take hours of editing. Getting a single sound, however, does not have to be so hard. Today's clip was the simplest yet. It took a single take, and minimal editing, and the clip was pretty much finished. I poured water from a pitcher into a large glass mug, and placed the microphone directly above the mug. The audio was easy to capture, and because I could just move it to match when the water was pouring, I didn't even have to try and match it in real-time.

The editing was minimal, I only adjusted the pitch of the water up just shy of 3 half-steps, and adjusted the volume so it wasn't too loud or soft, and BOOM. Done.

Not every day's audio design/foley is as simple. I think when it comes to real life things, foley is a lot easier, because those things are based in reality. but when it comes to something fantasy or sci-fi, the possibilities are limitless, because there's no real definition on what magic or advanced machines should sound like. When it comes to water being poured into a glass, we all know what that should sound like. It's almost universal. Some audio is harder to recreate. Today's was not.

Enjoy the clip!

(Best watched with a cup of hot tea, or glass of Ice-cold water)
