Day 6 - Balloon Time

Today, I've been thinking about balloons. Not for some special occasion that has happened in my life, but specifically for the sound design. They make a pretty unique sound, so I figured I'd give Foley another try.

Today's explanation will be short and sweet. I found this clip from The Mask of Jim Carrey Making a Balloon Giraffe fairly quickly. I tried to see if I could mimic his movements with my own balloon so I could match the audio, but it just wasn't syncing up. So, I slowed down the playback in Reaper (which is what I've used for all of these videos so far), and was able to record myself matching his movements while the video played at 0.25x speed. You notice it particularly at the end, as his hands make the final twists of the giraffe.

I added a little music, a cute, simple little melody, something like you might hear at a carnival, and did my best to imitate Jim Carrey and say the words that he says in the movie(don't judge my impression, I didn't take too many takes).

With minimal editing, and only 5 seconds to cover, this was probably my fastest design yet! It's hard to say how it compares to the other ones, just because they're all so different from one another, but I'm fairly happy with it. As long as you don't judge my voice, I won't judge if you don't leave a comment.

Regardless, enjoy this short little snippet of sound design!
